Version 0.2C Release

Hey all,

I've got a little update for you here, nothing major just bug fixes. As far as I'm aware all reported bugs have now been fixed. Sorry it's not a content heavy update but there is one being worked on now.

You might notice a path at the north of the Market District which leads nowhere at the moment, this is going to be a new area currently under the name of Silvermere Academy(that may change later). For those of you making the visit to the blog I thought I'd share a little info about this new area with you as a little thank you for stopping by ;)

Silvermere Academy is one of the most prestigious higher education institutions in the known world, it's famous gates only open to the best and brightest young minds in the country(as with all such institutions "best" really translates to those coming from influential families). Needless to say this setting should provide a few interesting scenarios, once you gain access of course. Keep an eye out for it's gates opening soon!

Missing, presumed.... gone.

Hey folks,

Sorry for pulling the old "drop off the face of the Earth" bit on you all, Bordello has been on something of a hiatus since the last update. Not any more though, although I have a little less free time to devote to it than before it is back on my agenda and I will continue to work on it from where I left off. I have a few new ideas for various areas and events that I hope you all like and I'll try and throw something new in there for the next update.

I know a lot of people have downloaded the game so far and I'd really like to hear from more of you, most of the feedback I've had has been really useful(and almost all positive) but it is pretty few and far between so if you have enjoyed what you've seen so far, have any suggestions on what could make the game better or just want to moan at me for the general state of the world then feel free to drop me an email to bordellocontact@gmail.com or leave a comment here or on the hongfire thread.

Anyway, I'll keep you all posted regarding future updates here on the blog, I'm still not in the habit of posting unless I have something to tell you about so don't worry if I go quiet for a little while, if you're really worried you can always get in touch as mentioned above.

Bordello Version 0.2

V0.2b links are now live. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Saved games from yesterdays V0.2 will be transferable. There was an issue with Clara, Tabitha & Naomis weekly earnings. Now there is not :)

Here we are, V02. It took a little longer to put out than I expected but I think the little changes I made when holding it back have made everything a little more rounded. I'm aiming to add at least 3 new girls to every version on top of other game play elements and although the images are still placeholders you'll find most of the new girls have a bit more descriptive text to them, so any comments there are very welcome. Unfortunately you'll need to start a new game as OLD SAVES WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY due to the addition of the stress system and the new girls. I may work something out for the next version to allow you to use existing saves but don't hold me to that as I can't guarantee it.

There's a full changelog below but the main additions are 4 new girls. One of which(Naomi) is something of a hidden bonus, you'll only ever find one hint on her location and there's only a small chance that the NPC in question will give you this hint I plan to throw a few of these in over the course of development. Everyone likes an Easter egg or two right? ;)

I've added a few new areas too, the main ones being the pub/inn and the church in the town centre. There's also now an item shop in the market district although it doesn't sell anything yet you will need to go there for one of the girls story arcs. The pocket watch can now also be bought from the special item seller in the market. Expect him to have a few other interesting items for you in future versions but for now that's all he sells. You can also now upgrade your brothels appearance by speaking to Leanne. As of this moment in time there is no effect from this other than making things prettier but they will eventually increase your customer satisfaction. You should also keep an eye out for Terry the Tipster, he's a handy guy to speak to, if you've got some spare coin.

The observant among you may have noticed the Donate button at the top right of the blog. I'm really hoping to commission some excellent original art for the game but that doesn't come cheap and while the game is and will always be free to play any contribution you'd like to make would be greatly appreciated. So if you've got a couple of bucks spare and are feeling generous then feel free to use said button and remember to leave a name or contact email so I can say thanks :). Also, feel free to spread the word about the game, I've only really posted it to Hongfire so if you hang out anywhere else and think they might be interested then the more the merrier.

-Books in the Library now take 3 hours to read instead of 2.
-Playing cards in the Port bar now takes 2 hours instead of automatically ending the night.
-Tweaked starting stats for girls to allow for future additions. (You may notice a slight drop in earnings)
-Altered image positioning for placeholder images. Should all now display better. (Not all are the correct size to take up the full screen but they will be when it's the final images.)
-Tweaked code for hiring girls to make it a little easier for me when adding new girls to the game.
-Changed farm house starting area so that the player is not being marched around by a bunch of scripts all of the time.
-Added a few little bits to the farm house that the player can examine, just to make it a little more interesting.
-Fixed a bug that stopped you talking to 3 of the girls if they were in slot 4(lowest on the screen in brothel)
-Added church services 3 times a week, has a small random effect on various stats.
-Tweaked the events when a player has sex with an employed girl. Nothing major just made a couple of extra fade outs/in to stop customers warping in if the time changed to 12
-Populated a few more interiors, a lot of NPCs still to be put in yet though.
-Populated slums exterior with a few additional NPCs

Progress check.

Hey all,

Just thought it'd be nice to post a little piece about how things are progressing. Things are coming along quite well. So far I've added two new girls, one of which has a lot of eventing work involved around so she took me a little bit longer than I'd expected but if I'd cut back on what I had planned then I would just regret it later so I stuck with it and Olivia is now all set and ready to work in your brothel, if you can convince her of course.

I've also added the first "hidden" girl. I'm curious to see how long it'll be before anyone finds her and what people think of her. Her names Naomi and she is quite "well" endowed ;)

On top of adding the two new girls I've also added a couple of new features, one of which is the Pocket Watch which players can buy from a merchant in the Market District, with this nifty contraption you can check the time wherever you are(you'll never be late for the tea party again!). Other than that I've made a few tweaks to the game systems for hiring girls etc. Nothing really noticeable in play but just things that will make life a little easier for me in the long run.

Here's my full changelog for v0.2 so far. Depending on how things progress next week and how happy I am with everything I may release it net weekend but don't hold me to that. I only plan on releasing updates when I'm convinced there's enough new content to make it worth the players time.

As usual any comments or suggestions are more than welcome.

Playable Demo V0.1

Well here it is. The public launch. Eep!

Currently there are 4 girls that you can hire. The time/day system is operational and there is 1 upgrade for the players house available. There is no end game objective or any advanced weekly events as of yet. Please feel free to offer any comments or suggestions, I'd really like to get an idea of how people feel about the direction of the game so far and if there are any areas of concern I should be addressing before the next update. I am aware the world is a little sparse on NPCs at the moment. They weren't really a priority at this time as I'm really focusing on game systems. I'll probably look to have a lot more of the world populated in the next update.

All sex scenes are place holders and will be changed in a future version.

I'm not one for posting a million little updates but I will issue any hotfixes that may be required to fix any game breaking bugs. So please don't expect a gigantic update on a weekly basis. I'll release the next version when I feel enough progress has been made that I'm not wasting peoples time with the download etc.

I have tested most events pretty thoroughly but when you're looking at your own work it is easy to miss little things so please point out any errors you can see whether it's just typos or something bigger. I hope this gives you an idea of what the end product will be like and maybe interests a few of you enough to follow my progress on the development a little more closely.

As I've said above I would love for you to leave some feedback, games are made to be enjoyed and if there are aspects I can change to make this a more enjoyable experience then that's something I will look at. Also feel free to post a link to the blog on any sites you might frequent where it isn't known about.

Introduction

Hey folks,

If you've found yourself here then first of all I'd like to thank you for supporting my little project(and second of all, wow. I mean I haven't even posted a link anywhere yet!), please feel free to leave a comment to say hi. It's nice to know people care ;)

So first off you can call me Obax, I'm the sole developer on this project, I'm 26 years old, a fan of various types of computer games and of course a bit of a hentai admirer. I'd like to state at this point that these are NOT my only two interests. Although now that I think about it computer games and sex do feature on my mind a lot of the time... Anyway, I've had some experience with RPG Maker in the past having made a couple of non-hentai related titles but I figured it's long past time to dip my toe into the proverbial water or, in this case, puddle of sexual juices that is a hentai themed RPG.

Bordello is more a management game than a traditional RPG and as such there are currently no plans to include combat in the game. Your character is put in the position of taking a run down brothel in the city and turning it into a profitable business by hiring girls, other staff members such as security etc and upgrading your facilities. At this moment in time I have planned for around 40 employable girls although depending on the detail of each that may increase or decrease as we move on. Any images in the game up to this point are purely place holders, I have a few ideas regarding images but that's a bridge I'll cross when things are a little further along the line and at that point I will be asking a community opinion on how to proceed, after all this is a game and games are made for the players.

I will be releasing a playable demo version in the near future, the starting section of the game is finished and now I'm really focusing on populating the world and perfecting the formulas and events around weekly earnings. For now here's a little list of some of the features that will make it into the game.

Current/planned features:

  • A time system, incorporating a day/night cycle as well as daily/weekly time progression.
  • Energy, your character can only do so many things in a day before needing to rest.
  • Reputation, the combined fame of your brothel and the girls working in it will have an effect on how successful your business is. 
  • Upgrades, improve your customers experience by upgrading your facilities.
  • Staff, each subsection of staff will have different effects on your brothel, and your wallet.
  • NPC Relationships, depending on your relationship with certain characters you may receive additional benefits, be it convincing an innocent girl to work for you, a discount on your security costs or just getting a free blowjob from one of your girls.
  • Statistics, each girl has unique starting stats which effect how many customers they attract and how well they serve them. These stats can be raised over time.
So there you have it, a little introductory post to give everyone a brief idea of what's being worked on. Feel free to ask any questions you may have and I'll do my best to answer them to your satisfaction.
